General Terriers
Popular terrier breeds include the Jack Russell Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, and Bull Terrier, among others. A few traits are typical of many terriers, and individual dogs' personalities can vary based on their genetics, upbringing, and socialisation experiences. A few problematic traits are:
Digging: Terriers have a strong instinct to dig, which stems from their history as hunters. Providing them with appropriate outlets for this behaviour, such as a designated digging area, can prevent them from wreaking havoc in your garden.
Territorial: Some terrier breeds can be protective of their territory and family. Early socialisation and training can help them become well-adjusted and friendly around strangers.
Feisty: Terriers can have a feisty and spirited personality, which can be endearing to some but may require consistent boundaries to avoid overprotectiveness or aggressive behaviour.
